History of the Cooksburg Post Office
The U.S. Post Office was established on February 14, 1870 as Cooksburgh. The first Postmaster was Anthony Cook. December 18, 1891 the “h” was dropped from Cooksburgh when Anthony Wayne Cook was appointed Postmaster. In 1929 the Post Office was moved into a building in Jefferson Co., owned by George Macbeth. The Post Office was moved back to Forest Co. in 1935 to a building of Tom and Ruth Cook Jr just in time for the great flood of 1936. In 1971 the present structure was built and the old building was moved and is now Cook Riverside Cabins #7. 1972 saw the next 100 year flood with water 2 feet deep in the present Post Office.
